telemedicine abortion providers so they can safely and sustainably deliver care to patients
nationwide. Through legal advocacy and direct provider support, ACT centers the unique and evolving needs of telehealth providers who assume significant risk in this work, enabling access to safe, timely, and affordable abortion care as a normal part of healthcare across the country.
About the role - Policy Counsel
ACT is seeking a curious, detail-oriented Policy Counsel to advance our legal and policy agenda and strengthen ACT’s strategic partnerships. Reporting to the Legal Director, this role offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in novel and evolving areas of the law, including shield law protections, telehealth, and prescription drug regulation. We are looking for a creative legal mind to help navigate complex, shifting legal landscapes and support the expansion of telemedicine abortion care. Your responsibilities will include:
- Legislative Advocacy: Track and analyze state and federal legislation impacting telemedicine abortion. Draft legislation and collaborate with state and national partners to advance ACT’s legislative agenda.
- Legal Landscape Monitoring: Track litigation and federal action impacting telehealth abortion, conduct legal research, and work with external counsel to analyze potential impacts. Keep leadership informed of emerging threats and opportunities in real-time.
- Partnership Engagement: Represent ACT in legal working groups and coalitions with state and national partners. Build and strengthen strategic partnerships to amplify our collective impact.
- Advocacy & Representation: Represent ACT at policy briefings, conferences, and stakeholder meetings. Help translate complex legal issues into accessible language for diverse audiences.
- Project Execution: Manage projects from start to finish, ensuring deadlines are met and stakeholders are kept informed.
Qualifications:
- A fierce and unwavering commitment to reproductive freedom and abortion access.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to and good standing with at least one state bar.
- Minimum of 3+ years of post-JD experience in policy advocacy, ideally in state legislative advocacy within reproductive rights or healthcare law.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills; ability to synthesize complex information quickly.
- Excellent communication skills with experience in presenting legal concepts to non-lawyers.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment with a high degree of organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects independently and meet deadlines with minimal administrative support and light-touch supervision.
