Role Description
The Vice President, Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Operations is a senior operational leader responsible for developing, optimizing, and scaling Advanced Practice Provider programs across a large, multi-site private Gastroenterology practice. This role is dedicated to driving APP performance, engagement, retention, onboarding excellence, and operational efficiency, ensuring APPs consistently practice at the top of their license.
Here are some of the duties you will be responsible for:
- This is a non-clinical executive leadership role.
- The VP will collaborate cross-functionally with MSO departments including Finance, Human Resources, Revenue Cycle, Compliance, Clinical Operations, and Executive Leadership to build infrastructure, reporting, governance, and strategic initiatives that elevate the APP function enterprise-wide.
Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Program Development:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive APP strategy aligned with organizational growth and clinical goals.
- Establish a scalable governance structure for APP leadership, including chairing and advancing APP leadership committees.
- Build a structured APP leadership pipeline, with future development of regional or service-line APP leads.
- Create and standardize onboarding, ramp-up, and competency validation programs across all sites.

Operational Excellence & Performance Management:
- Design and implement KPI dashboards to monitor APP productivity, access metrics, patient throughput, quality indicators, and financial performance.
- Analyze performance data and implement improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and top-of-license utilization.
- Partner with Finance to align productivity models, compensation structures, and incentive programs.
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement process improvements to optimize provider capacity.

Recruitment, Engagement & Retention:
- Partner with HR and clinical leadership to develop strategic APP workforce planning initiatives.
- Work with HR and Clinical Recruitment team on Lead APP recruitment strategy, including workforce forecasting and pipeline development.
- Work with HR & Markets to develop retention initiatives focused on engagement, career growth, and professional development for APPs.
- Implement mentorship and leadership development programs for APPs.

Education & Professional Development:
- Oversee continuing education strategy, clinical training standards, and competency maintenance.
- Develop structured ramp-up timelines and training pathways for new APPs.
- Ensure APPs are supported in practicing at the top of their education, certification, and licensure.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with MSO functional areas (Finance, HR, Revenue Cycle, Compliance, IT, Operations) to align APP initiatives with enterprise priorities.
- Ensure compliance with administrative, regulatory, and documentation standards.
- Partner with physician leadership to strengthen collaborative practice models.

Change Management & Culture:
- Lead cultural initiatives that enhance APP engagement and alignment with organizational values.
- Serve as executive sponsor for APP-related initiatives and innovation efforts.
- Drive measurable improvements in APP productivity, satisfaction, and retention.
Qualifications
- Advanced Practice Provider background (NP or PA) with prior clinical experience.
- 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations.
- Demonstrated success in improving provider productivity, engagement, or operational performance.
- Strong experience working with KPIs, dashboards, financial metrics, and reporting tools.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional MSO or corporate services departments.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale change initiatives.
- 10+ years total healthcare experience.
- 5–10 years in APP leadership, provider operations, or medical group operations.
- Direct management of APP teams (often 50–200+ providers in larger organizations).

- Increased wRVU productivity.
- Reduced ramp time for new APPs.
- Improved retention rates.
- Improved access metrics.
- Enhanced engagement scores.
- Experience developing compensation models or productivity frameworks.
- Exposure to payer mix, reimbursement models, and revenue cycle impact.
Requirements
- Experience within large private practice, specialty practice, or multi-site healthcare organization.
- Experience in Gastroenterology or procedural specialties is preferred but not required.
- MBA, MHA, or related advanced degree.
- Experience building governance structures and leadership committees.
