Job Description

Role Description

As the manager of the Corrections & Refunds unit, you will bring a human centered approach to a team environment as you manage record corrections, updates, and refunds for our Driver and Vehicle Records program. In this role, you will serve an 18-person team who are tasked with protecting the accuracy and integrity of driver and vehicle records for the residents of Washington State.

Your day-to-day duties could include:

  • Workload management and support
  • Resource allocation
  • Process improvement
  • Developing policies and practices related to program changes
  • Drafting official correspondence, justifications, briefs, and other official forms of communication
  • Understanding priorities and communicating effectively in high stress situations
  • Using leadership skills to explain and document the “why” behind your actions and decisions
  • Challenging yourself mentally and emotionally
  • Helping others be the best version of themselves

Some of what you will do:

  • Manage team performance, culture, and morale in a dynamic work environment
  • Support, coach, direct, and train the unit supervisors
  • Track and analyze unit statistics to identify workload trends
  • Participate in projects and work groups to identify, reduce, and eliminate barriers to customer access of unit services
  • Review and engage in process improvement efforts
  • Review and analyze new state statutes, federal regulations, and rules

Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years of experience in a management, administrative, or technical role supporting programs that regulate or license individuals or businesses or ensure compliance with regulations
  • Up to four (4) years of relevant education may substitute year for year for experience
  • Experience must include:
    • Four (4) years of supervisory experience
    • One (1) year of experience managing or navigating teams through organizational change
    • One (1) year of experience researching, analyzing, and making recommendations on policies, procedures, laws, rules, or other written documentation related to business operations
    • One (1) year of experience writing formal documents which could include reports, essays, opinions, briefs, arguments, justifications, recommendations, and any other forms of official written communication
    • One (1) year of experience using Microsoft Suite office products including Excel, Word, One Note, Outlook, and Teams
    • Six (6) months of experience working directly with business partners, individuals, and other interest groups responding appropriately to their questions or concerns
  • The ability to:
    • Understand and follow agency values of respect, trust, diversity, equity and inclusion through behaviors and decisions
    • Promote and support a respectful, equitable, and inclusive workplace for all employees
    • Promote and support respectful, equitable, and inclusive delivery of services to customers
    • Take action to learn and grow
    • Take action to meet the needs of others
