Job Description

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Technical Project Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The Technical Project Engineer position is responsible for technical/operational leadership of a project/mission or group of projects/missions within the programmatic guidelines set by the program manager and customer.

 

This position is remote. 

 

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

 

  • Review project proposals and plans to define objectives and align with management expectations.
  • Break projects into phases and tasks, assign responsibilities, and coordinate with internal teams and contractors.
  • Analyze product designs, customer requirements, and performance standards to determine project specifications.
  • Conduct technical studies and prepare cost estimates for project planning.
  • Design and perform tests to confirm product performance and quality.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules by calculating timelines, sequencing tasks, and monitoring progress.
  • Coordinate activities across teams and resolve issues to keep the project on track.
  • Review design, specifications, and schedule changes to recommend appropriate actions.
  • Manage project costs by approving expenditures and overseeing contractor contracts.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing progress, trends, and recommendations.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership within program guidelines, ensuring project objectives are met.
  • Define, generate, and review project requirements documentation.
  • Perform technical studies to refine and clarify project requirements.
  • Monitor project scope, schedule, and budget to ensure objectives are clearly defined and maintained.
  • Coordinate between resource managers and supervisors, ensuring all necessary reviews and approvals are completed.
  • Conduct performance or project analyses during phase-down to provide insights for future projects, missions, or programs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience or an Associate's degree and 4 years of experience or a High School diploma and 6 years of experience. 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Proven experience leading technical or operational projects, including setting clear objectives and aligning with leadership expectations.

  • Strong background in project management, preferably within an Information Technology environment.

  • Experience gathering, writing, and reviewing project requirements, as well as conducting technical analysis to define project scope.

  • Ability to break down projects into phases and tasks, develop timelines, and manage detailed project schedules.

    Experience reviewing system or product designs and defining technical requirements, including testing and validation approaches.

  • Ability to support budgeting activities, including cost estimation, tracking expenses, and managing vendor or contractor work.

  • Strong coordination skills with cross functional teams, including engineers, project stakeholders, and external partners, to resolve technical challenges.

  • Experience tracking project progress, analyzing performance data, and providing clear status updates with recommendations.

  • Strong problem solving and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting federal, state, or local government customers.

  • Prior experience working within a government contracting environment, including familiarity with compliance, regulatory requirements, and structured program delivery.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
