Job Description

Sales/Intake Attorney – Criminal Defense | Michael & Associates, California

Michael & Associates is revolutionizing the criminal defense landscape in California. Building on our considerable achievements in Texas, we are bringing our proven methods of innovation, efficiency, and exceptional client service to the West Coast. Our vision is both ambitious and straightforward: within the next three years, we aim to become the largest and most effective criminal defense firm in the country, creating an environment where attorneys can thrive both personally and professionally, while guaranteeing that every client receives outstanding and high-quality representation.

Who We Are

We stand out from typical defense firms by merging outstanding legal knowledge with the operational effectiveness of leading technology companies. Our approach leverages advanced digital marketing, streamlined processes, and data-driven methodologies to provide a tailored and high-quality experience for our clients.

This innovative strategy has positioned us as one of the most prominent defense firms in Texas, and we are now bringing this vision to California to transform the landscape of criminal defense.

About the Role

In the position of Sales/Intake Attorney, you will be the initial point of contact for individuals in need of legal representation. You will interact directly with clients who are facing serious criminal charges, thoroughly evaluate their circumstances, and effectively communicate how Michael & Associates can safeguard their rights and future.

This role does not require cold calling—each lead is pre-qualified and actively seeking legal advice. Your primary focus will be on establishing trust, showcasing the firm’s value, and guiding potential clients through the process of engaging our services.

Key Responsibilities

Engage and Convert

  • Conduct daily consultations with approximately 20 qualified leads.
  • Build rapport quickly, identify client needs, and secure signed retainers.

Educate and Advise

  • Develop a deep understanding of California criminal law and our firm’s proven defense strategies.
  • Confidently answer client questions and explain our approach in a clear, reassuring way.

Empathize and Reassure

  • Support clients who may be anxious, uncertain, or overwhelmed.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, patience, and empathy to build trust and confidence.

Represent the Brand

  • Uphold Michael & Associates’ commitment to excellence, advocacy, and white-glove service in every interaction.
  • Set the tone for an exceptional client experience from the very first call.

Why You’ll Love This Role

1. Be Part of a Fast-Growing Firm
You’ll be joining our California launch team — the ground floor of a national expansion. Help build something new and be part of a firm that’s scaling fast.

2. Career Growth and Advancement
Criminal defense rarely offers real growth paths. We’re changing that by building a firm where talented attorneys can advance, lead teams, and develop their careers long-term.

3. Forward-Thinking Culture
We embrace technology, automation, and continuous improvement — freeing our attorneys to focus on clients, not busywork.

4. Team Collaboration
No lone wolves here. Every client benefits from the expertise of the entire firm. You’ll work alongside highly skilled attorneys who share your passion for excellence.

5. Make a Real Difference
Every day, you’ll help people through one of the most stressful times in their lives — providing hope, clarity, and first-rate representation. Our reviews speak for themselves: we fight hard and care deeply.

Job Requirements

  • You Enjoy Doing Consults and Have Experience Selling to New Clients
  • You’ll be on the phone a lot — every single day — speaking with potential clients who need help. If you don’t absolutely love engaging with people, listening to their stories, and guiding them toward the best legal solution, this isn’t the right fit. But if you thrive on meaningful conversations and helping clients take that next step toward peace of mind, you’ll excel here.
  • Strong Phone Sales Skills
  • It’s not just about talking — it’s about connecting. You should be friendly, empathetic, and professional, but also confident, knowledgeable about the law, and capable of handling any questions or concerns potential clients may raise. Prior experience in phone-based sales or client consultations is a major plus.
  • Appropriate License
  • You must have one of the following:
  • An active California Bar license, or a clear plan to obtain one; or
  • An active Bar license from another state for 5+ years, which can streamline admission to the California Bar; or
  • A Bar license from a state that has reciprocity with California (if applicable).
  • You Love Being on the Phone — Seriously
  • We can’t emphasize this enough: this role is all about connecting with clients over the phone. If talking with people energizes you and you find satisfaction in helping them during one of the most stressful times in their lives, you’ll love this job. If not, this probably isn’t your ideal fit.

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary Range: $130000– $200000 per year (depending on experience and performance)
