VMware Deployment Engineer – Secret Clearance
Hybrid Role | 70% Travel across the USA. Effort Location: Onsite support required at multiple locations (Oklahoma City, OK; Montgomery, AL; Ogden, UT; Mechanicsburg, PA) Salary Range: $110,000 – $150,000 (depending on experience and qualifications) Employment Type: Full-time, Year-long contract with likely extensions (long-term opportunity) Clearance Requirement: Active Secret clearance required
We are seeking an experienced VMware Deployment Engineer to join our team supporting critical classified datacenter environments. In this hands-on role, you will lead the startup, integration, and ongoing support of proprietary and third-party virtualization, compute, networking, and storage solutions on hardware in secure, classified settings.
This is a hybrid position with approximately 70% travel to designated onsite locations and 30% remote work. Ideal candidates thrive in dynamic, high-security environments and have deep expertise in Linux, VMware virtualization, and modern infrastructure technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, patch, configure, and maintain virtualization software and related products on HPE hardware platforms
- Integrate identity management and security controls across multi-vendor products and environments
- Build and manage infrastructure components, including OS image lifecycle management and STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) compliance processes
- Plan and execute the integration of new tools and capabilities into private cloud environments
- Identify, troubleshoot, and remediate security vulnerabilities and operational issues
- Perform startup and integration tasks for new systems and services in classified datacenter environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, secure, and compliant infrastructure delivery
Job Requirements
- Active Secret clearance (or ability to obtain/maintain – interim not sufficient for immediate start)
- Expert-level Linux skills (Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar enterprise distributions strongly preferred)
- Strong, hands-on background and experience with VMware technologies (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, NSX, vSAN, etc.)
- Solid working knowledge of container platforms, especially Kubernetes
- Working knowledge of datacenter networking (switches, VLANs, routing, firewalls, load balancing)
- Working knowledge of datacenter storage (SAN, NAS, software-defined storage, vSAN)
- Proven experience performing startup/integration tasks in classified environments
- Experience with OS image lifecycle management, STIG hardening, vulnerability remediation, and debugging complex issues
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 70% to support onsite deployments at designated locations
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in secure, high-stakes environments
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with at least one major public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Familiarity with HPE hardware platforms (ProLiant, Synergy, etc.)
- Certifications such as:
- VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) or higher
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent
- CompTIA Security+ or higher
- Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKAD)
