Job Description
• Reviews medical record documentation to determine appropriate billing codes and necessary documentation
• Reviews documentation to identify pertinent facts necessary for coding diagnoses and procedures
• Codes evaluation, management, and diagnosis to appropriate codes
• Meets with physicians to review documentation and resolve coding issues
• Acts as lead person and assists coders with medical terminology and policy interpretation
• Prepares case reports and initiates follow-up for billing process
• Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- A diploma, certification or degree is not required
- Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials)
- Preferred: Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
