Job Description

The Director of Mechanical & Plumbing Virtual Construction provides strategic and operational leadership for all virtual construction and construction technology initiatives supporting mechanical and plumbing operations. This role oversees discipline leads, designers, detailers, Trimble layout and scan units, and the firm’s VC technology and data ecosystem, ensuring alignment between design, fabrication, field execution, and business objectives. Lead, mentor, and manage virtual construction VC manager, VC Liaison, and VC Tech Leads down to the discipline leads, designers, detailers, coordinators, and technology specialists through their appropriate managers or leads Provide oversight of Trimble layout teams and model-based field layout operations Establish staffing plans, role definitions, and performance metrics Foster collaboration between VC, project management, fabrication shops, and field leadership Assist in yearly budgeting and driving the team to meet or exceed this budget Drive continuous improvement of the VC group using the 4Dx process Define and implement the division-wide virtual construction strategy for mechanical ductwork, piping, and plumbing scopes Develop, maintain, and enforce VC standards, workflows, and quality control procedures through the appropriate Managers and Leads Ensure consistent, scalable execution of VC across all projects Align virtual construction efforts with prefabrication, modularization, and installation strategies Coordinate and manage the VC technology stack, including VC platforms, coordination tools, and field layout systems between the Missouri and Colorado offices Validate and oversee data standards, model data structures, and digital deliverables Provide Ops Manager-level VC input during preconstruction and pursuit phases Support complex or high-risk projects with advanced constructability, phasing, and logistics modeling Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on virtual construction and technology strategy

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical and/or plumbing construction, BIM, or virtual construction
  • Proven leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary VC teams, both salaried and union, based primarily in Mechanical Sheet Metal, Piping, and Plumbing
  • Deep understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems, fabrication, and field installation methods
  • Knowledgeable in VC platforms (Revit, Revizto), coordination workflows, and field layout technologies (RTS/Trimble)
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, and management skills
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading Mechanical VC teams
  • Strong background in prefabrication and modular construction
  • Familiarity with data analytics, dashboards, and construction intelligence platforms
  • Strong background in Mechanical/Plumbing VC, VC Technology, constructability and ITM/VC database
