Role Description
As the UX Research Intern at BetterHelp, you’ll join a diverse team of licensed clinicians, engineers, product pros, creatives, marketers, and business leaders who share a passion for expanding access to therapy.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in the end-to-end research process, working closely with:
- Designers
- Content designers
- Data scientists
- Engineers
- Product managers
You’ll be fully integrated into the product development cycle, contributing to meaningful research that improves access to high-quality mental healthcare.
What will you do?
- Design and execute research studies with guidance from your manager (e.g., usability testing, surveys, interviews).
- Support usability testing by helping plan sessions, moderate or observe studies, and synthesize findings.
- Translate research findings into clear, concise insights and recommendations that inform product and design decisions.
- Develop research artifacts such as user journeys, personas, or summaries to support product strategy.
- Contribute to maintaining and organizing our research repository to ensure insights are accessible and reusable.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to frame research questions and ensure research drives impact.
- Present findings in written and verbal formats tailored to different audiences.

Qualifications
- Currently pursuing, recently completed, or returning to the workforce with training or experience in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Cognitive Science, Sociology, Human Factors, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Understanding of common research methods (e.g., usability testing, surveys, interviews) and when to apply them.
- Experience with basic statistical analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate findings and recommendations.
- Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively with designers, product managers, engineers, and data scientists.
- Curiosity about user behavior and motivation, especially in emotionally sensitive contexts.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with interest in maintaining research documentation and repositories.
- One or more portfolio or academic projects demonstrating your research process, insights, and impact.
Requirements
- Bonus: Experience moderating usability tests or user interviews.
- Familiarity with survey tools, research platforms, or statistical software.
- Interest in mental health, digital health, or behavior change products.
- Experience working with research repositories or knowledge management systems.
- Curiosity about how research connects to business outcomes and retention.
