Job Description
• Independently handle an inventory of litigated and non-litigated files
• Advise and mentor less senior attorneys
• Travel for depositions, mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, arbitrations and trials as needed
• Prepare discovery, legal pleadings, trial briefs, etc.
• Appear and advocate on behalf of CSAA IG and member insureds
• Conduct all phases of personal injury litigation including jury trials, motions, and arbitration hearings
• Handle complex legal matters or projects including matters not in litigation
• Identify issues with major implications, high liability exposure, special circumstances and/or departure from guidelines
• Refer to higher level staff for review and possible assignment of additional resources
Job Requirements
- 5-8+ years of experience in insurance defense practice with courtroom and first or second chair trial experience
- Ability to work collaboratively with assigned paralegal(s) and support staff
- Requires law degree
- License to practice law in California required
- Skilled in personal injury litigation including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, personal injury damages and causation and the tri-partite relationship
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and timely manner
- Proficient computer skills, including MS office and online research tools
- Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively and effectively
- The ability to think and act independently in a client’s best interest
- Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of legal ethics
