Role Description

Join our team as an AI & Data Engineering Intern to contribute to the advancement of data engineering and AI capabilities on a global scale!

This internship is part of the Rising TIDE program. Elsevier created its Rising TIDE internship program to foster inclusion and provide individuals with work experience in the corporate world so that we can develop a pipeline of talent for entry-level individuals for post-graduation opportunities.

The Elsevier Data & Content organization designs, builds, and delivers high-quality datasets and AI-driven solutions that power Elsevier’s products and support its customers. We focus on advancing data engineering and AI capabilities, driving innovation, and building efficient, scalable systems that serve research, health, and science communities globally.

This internship will enable you to learn how AI and Data Engineering operate at scale across a large enterprise. You’ll contribute to:

  • Extending and improving data pipelines
  • AI‑driven workflows
  • Analytics capabilities that support various teams across Elsevier

You will work closely with Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and other stakeholders to understand goals, data workflows, and platform enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and improvement of data pipelines and automated processes
  • Assist in building and testing AI‑enabled tools and workflows
  • Help enhance internal data tools and systems
  • Contribute to data quality, performance, and automation efforts
  • Review and maintain data quality across systems
  • Work with team members to refine data workflows
  • Participate in team discussions, planning sessions, and collaborative activities
  • Support documentation and simple reporting as needed

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, or a related field of study with a graduation date of May 2027
  • Demonstrate understanding of AI and data engineering concepts
  • Display familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, and GitHub Copilot
  • Possess proficiency in Python and agile development practices
  • Have experience with data processing, analysis, and familiarity with big data tools and cloud platforms such as AWS and Snowflake
  • Possess effective communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Be a natural problem solver, able to work independently, collaboratively with team members, and lead project teams to resolve issues

Salary Range

  • $28/hour for undergraduate students
  • $30/hour for graduate students

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate or graduate students expected to graduate by May 2027
