Job Description
Role Description
This position involves coding and abstracting inpatient medical records.
- Performs coding and abstracting on inpatient medical records by selecting and documenting ICD 10-CM Diagnoses and PCS procedure codes
- Assigns correct ICD-10-CM/PCS codes with a coding accuracy rate of 95% or greater
- Performs abstracting of coding and clinical data (i.e., discharge disposition, discharge date, patient type, etc.) with an accuracy rate of 95% or greater
- Codes/Abstracts 2.5 inpatient charts per hour
- Processes emails within a 24 to 48 hour response time
- Processes EPIC dashboard all work queues, IP Priority, coding review needed daily
- Maintains current knowledge of the information contained in Coding Clinic and the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
- Is proficient in using Epic and 3m 360 Encompass encoder
- Is able to write appropriate physician queries and refers queries to physicians and questions to supervisors as appropriate, complying with all internal audit requirements
- Confirms the accuracy of autosuggested codes by utilizing the evidence review buttons
- Completes 30 hours of continued education annually
Qualifications
- RHIA or RHIT or CCS certification
- Associates degree in Health Information Management or completion of Coding Specialist Program or equivalent years of work experience
- 2 years of coding ICD10-CM/PCS experience
