Position Title: Principal ServiceNow Technical Architect
Location: Remote (DMV Preferred)

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a Principal ServiceNow Technical Architect to serve as the enterprise technical authority and accountable architect of record for the ServiceNow platform supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
This individual is responsible for establishing and enforcing architectural standards, governing data and integration strategy, modernizing legacy implementations, reducing customization debt, and ensuring upgrade-safe platform engineering aligned to PWS requirements, CLIN deliverables, and federal compliance mandates.
This is a stewardship role. The Principal Architect defines how the platform will operate — not simply how it will be configured.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Enterprise Architecture & Platform Stewardship
- Serve as final technical authority for ServiceNow architectural standards under OMEGA
- Establish and enforce platform-wide architectural guardrails governing customization, integration, data modeling, and application composition
- Lead and adjudicate Architecture Review Board(ARB) decisions impacting ServiceNow
- Define enterprise data models aligned to CSDM and ensure CMDB integrity across domains
- Author and maintain reference architectures, integration patterns, and reusable blueprints
- Modernize legacy, over-customized implementations into composable, upgrade-safe ecosystems
- Protect long-term platform sustainability by preventing architectural drift and uncontrolled sprawl
- Oversee defensible documentation of architectural decisions to support governance traceability and audit readiness
Enterprise Integration & Data Authority
- Architect scalable, secure integration strategies usingIntegrationHub, REST APIs, and event-based patterns
- Define enterprise-aligned automation standards leveraging Flow Designer and App Engine
- Establish cross-domain data consistency and interoperability strategies
- Ensure platform decisions strengthen reporting integrity, analytics capability, and operational transparency
- Balance innovation velocity with disciplined governance
Contractual & Compliance Accountability (OMEGA-Aligned)
- Ensure architectural output aligns with OMEGA PWS tasking, CLIN deliverables, and SOW governance requirements
- Maintain defensible artifacts supporting ARB decisions, audit reviews, and federal oversight inquiries
- Ensure alignment with VA ATO, FedRAMP, RMF, and security documentation requirements
- Escalate material architectural risks within one business day of identification
- Provide structured weekly executive-level reporting inclusive of 30–60-dayforward-lookingrisk posture, mitigation strategy, resource considerations, and contract impact implications
Executive-Level Technical Leadership
- Align product, engineering, and delivery teams under a unified enterprise architecture strategy
- Mentor senior engineers and solution architects in enterprise-scale design thinking
- Translate complex and ambiguous business objectives into sustainable architectural models
- Provide consultative leadership that strengthens engineering discipline without creating bureaucratic friction
- Establish a culture where patterns, standards, and governance are adopted because they improve outcomes — not because they are mandated
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree and 5 years of relevant experience (13 years of experience required with no degree)
- Active ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA) preferred. Certified Master Architect (CMA), and Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS)also considered
- Demonstrated experience governing complex, multi-team ServiceNow ecosystems in regulated environments
- Deep expertise in:
- CSDM and enterprise CMDB strategy
- App Engine and Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM)
- IntegrationHuband REST-based enterprise integrations
- Flow Designer automation architecture
- ServiceNow security architecture and role modeling
- Proven track record of stabilizing and modernizing highly customized ServiceNow environments
- Experience operating within federal compliance frameworks (ATO, RMF, FedRAMP)
- Experience participating in or leading Architecture Review Boards (ARB)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supporting VA or other large federal health IT modernization initiatives
- Familiarity with App Engine Studio
- Experience reducing platform technical debt in enterprise ServiceNow environments
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities, Process Mining, or advanced data governance frameworks
- Experience in Agile delivery environments
- Experience in Government Contracting, including PWS compliance and deliverables management
- Local to DMV and able to attend in-person meetings twice monthly

WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday 9-5 ET.
Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs.
Up to 25% travel may be required, including day trips in the DMV area.
Must have reliable internet service to enable effective telecommuting when working remotely.
