As a Senior Software Engineer, you will contribute to Defense-focused platform offerings integrating Akamai capabilities into mission environments. Solve complex engineering challenges using cloud-native and edge-based architectures. Deliver secure, scalable systems trusted by customers operating in constrained environments.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining secure cloud-native and edge-based software solutions supporting government and defense customers.
- Developing and troubleshooting container-based applications deployed across cloud, on-premises, and edge environments.
- Translating product and customer requirements into scalable, maintainable technical implementations aligned with mission constraints.
- Collaborating with cross-functional Agile teams to deliver, enhance, and sustain secure product capabilities.
- Enabling seamless deployment and integration experiences across services, platforms, networking, and identity components.
- Supporting on-site integration activities, troubleshooting software, container, networking, and identity issues in operational environments.
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have 5 years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, technical integration roles or it's equivalent
- Possess knowledge of containerization technologies including Docker or Podman and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or ECS.
- Exhibit solid understanding of modern software lifecycles including build, test, deploy, DevSecOps, and iterative operations.
- Hold active Secret clearance and maintain DoD 8140-compliant certification such as Security+ or CISSP.
- Demonstrate experience deploying containerized solutions to edge appliances in constrained or regulated government environments.
- Travel for periodic 12 week on-site integrations while coordinating across customer stakeholders, internal teams, and third-party integrators.

Compensation
Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $121,400 - $218,600/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
