Role Description
This position will work from home; occasional planned travel to our Southfield, Michigan office may be required. However, this position is permitted to work at our Southfield, Michigan office if requested by the team member.
- Maximize revenue and minimize losses through a series of actions compliant with the federal bankruptcy code.
- Work assigned route of accounts in compliance with department policies and processes.
- Protect the interests of Credit Acceptance on accounts where the customer has filed for Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy.
- Ensure maximum revenues are generated by thoroughly reviewing proposed plan terms and the timely initiation of follow-up actions.
- Maintain a strong partnership with a network of external Bankruptcy attorneys to achieve this result.
- Support additional customer and external attorney requests.
Outcomes and Activities
Account Management:
- Use Chapter 7 and 13 Bankruptcy policies and processes to manage accounts.
- Manage a route of accounts through the bankruptcy life cycle making sure review dates are kept current and exceptions are handled timely and appropriately.
- Evaluate Chapter 7 filings and determine if the debtor requests and qualifies for a reaffirmation and follow-up accordingly.
- Evaluate Chapter 13 bankruptcy plans ensuring Credit Acceptance is appropriately secured.
- Use 3rd party websites to gather information regarding the status of a bankruptcy.
- Timely submit Proof of Claims on Chapter 7 filings that are asset cases and on all Chapter 13 filings.
- Negotiate with debtors’ attorneys to improve Credit Acceptance's position in a bankruptcy plan.
- Cost effectively assign accounts to local counsel to maximize the Company's revenue.
- Follow-up on account exceptions.
Call Management:
- Answer all inbound calls with a focus on providing professional customer service to all callers.
- Follow through on commitments made and follow through on required resolutions.
- Make outbound calls to attorneys and trustees.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous customer service and/or collection experience in a call center environment.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of two years of legal experience interacting with third parties.
- Demonstrated automotive bankruptcy knowledge.
- Understanding of Bankruptcy laws and processes and consequences of non-compliance.
- Chapter 7 and 13 specific bankruptcy knowledge.

- Remain positive, professional, determined, calm and focused when faced with challenging situations.
- Be a quick thinker, with an ability to understand and interpret information promptly and effectively.

Targeted Compensation
$19.25 - $22.50/hour based on experience, plus uncapped monthly bonus potential.
