Role Description
Join a dynamic HR team at Duke University’s School of Medicine, where you’ll play a key role in delivering specialized, high-impact support for our Human Resources Service Center (HRSC)!
As an HR Specialist, you’ll help drive exceptional service across immigration-related processes, offering expert guidance and ensuring a smooth, well-coordinated experience throughout the employment lifecycle.
- Support departments within the School of Medicine’s HRSC in its immigration services
- Serve as a resource, providing guidance and excellent customer service
- Prepare, coordinate, and enter documentation throughout the employment process
Qualifications
- Prior visa/immigration experience preferred
- Work requires knowledge of basic communications, research and mathematical principles normally acquired through a high school education
- Five (5) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
Requirements
- Serve as a resource on routine and complex visa matters
- Provide guidance, assistance, and support to management, supervisors, and administrators
- Demonstrate knowledge of internal HR information and communicate Duke Policies and regulations
- Act as consultant and recommend best practices in accordance with established University policy
- Maintain and build relationships with School of Medicine HR and other appropriate offices and departments
- Address, analyze, and triage all general customer inquiries
- Advise and assist in the handling of human resources issues
- Provide immigration policy and human resources policy guidance
- Act as immigration resource to Foreign Nationals
- Oversee and coordinate visa process for international staff, faculty appointments, JF 27 postdocs and visiting scholars/observers
- Coordinate, process, and manage new hires, including I-9 verification and submission
- Accurately process HR transactions in Duke’s HR systems
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
