Job Description
The Opportunity
GRC is seeking a Lead CAD Drafter to support our engineering team. This role is responsible for drafting, coordinating surveys, managing permit requirements, and collaborating with GRC leadership to achieve project success. The ideal candidate is a self-starter proficient in AutoCAD and Fiber Design who can navigate complex engineering landscapes and ensure our data management remains a high-functioning asset for the company.

Responsibilities
The Lead CAD Drafter will basemap, draft, and engineer both aerial and underground (UG) fiber optic utility permits and construction drawings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting & Design: Create basemaps, designs, as-builts, Google Earth/KMZ files, GIS data, and AutoCAD drawings.
- Template Management: Assist the Design and Draft Manager in the creation of all CAD templates and standards.
- Quality Control: Review and complete aerial and UG permit drawings; assist in performing QC checks for internal drafts and external drafting subs.
- Compliance: Abide by all national UG and NESC engineering standards while drafting.
- Project Coordination: Evaluate engineering scope and logistics; assist in gathering variables to determine the best route and cost.
- Communication: Work directly with the Project Manager to oversee project success and ensure all drafting timelines are clearly communicated.
- Leadership Support: Assist the VP of Engineering with dates for all engineering-associated design solution milestones.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years’ experience with drafting in the telecom industry.
- Technical Mastery: Proven success with communication and Right-of-Way (ROW) construction drawings across various states and jurisdictions.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of utility construction processes, terminology, and various GIS practices.
- Organizational Excellence: Ability to plan CAD design flow/methodology and maintain high organization through daily job allocation.
- Education: 4-year degree, military experience, or a 6-year minimum of related working experience.
- Credentials: A valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background in CAD Template Standards and Google Earth/KMZ/GIS data.
- Proficiency with Google Suite (Sheets, etc.), Zoho, and project management tools.
- Microsoft Office certifications are encouraged.
- Process and documentation orientation with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Additional Information
Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 + 10% bonus
Schedule: Day Shift: Monday - Friday
Travel Requirements: Remote (Must be willing to travel 5-10%)
