Role Description

The summer internship is a unique, high-visibility opportunity to work at the heart of BHI's investment activities. As a member of the Private Investments team reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Summer Associate will be embedded in end-to-end investment processes, from early-stage sourcing and market mapping through due diligence, pipeline management, and live deal support. The Summer Associate will also contribute to systems optimization and process improvements that directly shape how the team operates. This is a dynamic role with real responsibility: the Summer Associate will interact directly with senior leadership, Investment Committee members, and founders, gaining exposure that is rare at the internship level and meaningful from day one.

The internship is expected to be approximately 2 months, running from June to August. The position is full-time and remote, with flexibility on work location. The Summer Associate will have the option to work in-person with the Managing Director in New York City a few times per week for those based in or near the area.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research and build market maps across the US financial services and mental health investment landscapes, identifying trends, emerging business models, and high-potential early-stage companies
  • Review inbound investment proposals and prioritize high-quality opportunities aligned with BHI's thesis
  • Analyze market opportunities and investment themes to source proprietary deal flow
  • Meet with founders and management teams to assess potential investments
  • Assist in developing and refining investment selection criteria and internal evaluation frameworks
  • Provide daily support throughout the investment process, including memo writing, financial analysis, and competitive landscaping
  • Support portfolio monitoring activities including tracking financial performance, conducting company research, and evaluating impact metrics

Qualifications

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Proficient in building, reading, and interpreting financial models, statements, and projections
  • Strong research aptitude: ability to independently identify, qualify, and prioritize prospective companies from scratch
  • Drive to take ownership of processes and take tasks to completion with minimal oversight
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including synthesizing complex information into clear, concise narratives
  • Demonstrated interest in the intersection of private markets and social impact
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment independently
  • Commitment to managing deadlines and delivering timely work product
  • Close attention to detail and accuracy in all materials

Education and Experience

  • Work experience in private equity/venture capital, investment banking, or management consulting
  • Experience in or demonstrated interest in financial services, mental health, or healthcare investing
  • MBA preferred; or equivalent academic achievement in finance, economics, or accounting
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with investment analysis, accounting, and/or corporate finance
  • Demonstrated interest in or commitment to the impact investment industry via work experience or volunteer positions

Benefits and Compensation

  • BHI will provide compensation that is commensurate with related work experience.
