Role Description
Seeking an Asset Product Owner to establish and operate Hardware and Software Asset Management (HAM/SAM) on the ServiceNow platform for a growing, medium‑size organization. This role is accountable for operating lifecycle policies and governance while partnering closely with a ServiceNow HAM/SAM Engineer, IT security, supply chain and other business stakeholders.
The Asset Product Owner is the functional owner of asset data, policy, and compliance, ensuring assets are accurately tracked from request through retirement, supporting financial accountability, audit readiness, and cost optimization.
The Main Responsibilities

Product Ownership & Strategy
- Own the Asset Management product vision and roadmap across Hardware and Software assets
- Define HAM & SAM scope, priorities, and success metrics aligned to business needs
- Serve as the decision authority for asset lifecycle rules, data standards, and exception handling

Asset Lifecycle Governance
- Define and operate end‑to‑end asset lifecycle policies (request, procure, deploy, operate, retire, dispose)
- Establish governance for asset ownership, custody, and accountability
- Define data precedence rules across discovery tools, procurement records, and contracts
- Ensure alignment with CMDB concepts

Software Asset & License Compliance
- Define software compliance policies, entitlement management standards, and risk thresholds
- Partner with Legal, Finance, and Security on license compliance, audit readiness, and remediation
- Guide reconciliation strategy and publisher compliance approaches (e.g., major vendors, SaaS)

Stakeholder Partnership
- Serve as an interface between IT, Procurement, Finance, Security, and Audit/Risk
- Translate business requirements into a prioritized backlog for the HAM/SAM Engineer
- Support leadership reporting on asset risk, cost exposure, and optimization opportunities

Platform Enablement (via Engineering Partner)
- Provide requirements and acceptance criteria for ServiceNow HAM/SAM configurations
- Review and approve workflows, lifecycle states, reports, and dashboards
- Ensure documentation, standards, and operating procedures are created and maintained
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) desired in Information Technology, Information Systems, or Computer Science
- 3+ years of related experience
- Certification is required in some areas

3+ years of hands-on experience in:
- Owning or leading IT Asset Management, HAM, SAM, or Asset Lifecycle Management
- Strong understanding of hardware and software asset lifecycles, procurement, and financial alignment
- Partnering with Finance, Procurement, Security, and Audit stakeholders
- Defining policy, governance, and operating models in a new or evolving environment
- Working with ServiceNow‑based teams (functional ownership, not necessarily hands‑on build)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ServiceNow HAM and/or SAM implementations or operations
- Familiarity with software licensing models and compliance concepts
- Experience supporting audits or compliance assessments
- Background in IT operations, technology transformation, or enterprise platform ownership
- ServiceNow, ITAM, or related certifications (nice to have)
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
- Location Based Pay Ranges: $120,000 - $185,000
