The Illumination Works 2026 Internship Program runs from May 2026 to August 2026. Start and end dates within those months are flexible, ensuring a minimum internship duration of 10 or more weeks. Please note your availability, including start, end, and any vacation days/weeks on your Cover Letter.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assist in the development and/or maintenance of data pipelines that support data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and load processes
- Work on large-scale data systems, ensuring the efficient and secure movement of data across various platforms and exposure to downstream processes
- Implement data integration strategies and build processes for cleaning and aggregating raw data from multiple sources
- Collaborate with data scientists to ensure seamless integration of machine learning models into data pipelines
- Optimize data storage and retrieval processes to enhance system performance
- Assist with the design and development of data infrastructure on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)
- Communicate findings and present results to the project team, leadership, and fellow interns, providing clear recommendations and next steps
Must have qualifications:
- Senior or recent graduate in a 4-year university pursuing a degree in a relevant field (i.e., Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or other related scientific field)
- Minimum GPA of 3.4 on a 4.00 scale
- Understanding of ETL processes, data modeling, and database architecture
- Experience with SQL, Python and/or Cypher, as well as familiarity with data technologies such as Databricks, Neo4j, Spark, or Kafka
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and data storage solutions (e.g., graph databases, SQL databases, NoSQL databases, data lakes)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in handling large data sets
- Innovative, creative, out-of-box thinking with willingness to learn new skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Acceptable candidates must successfully pass a drug test, pass a background screen, and provide official transcripts
- US Citizenship
Additional desired qualifications:
- Experience with collaborative coding and source control tools (e.g., GitHub)
- Experience working in an agile framework with tools such as Jira
