Role Description
The Industrial Hygienist provides expert environmental, health, and safety (EHS) support across GSA Region 8 by conducting industrial hygiene inspections, assessments, and investigations; managing IH-related projects; and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and industry standards.
- Conduct industrial hygiene and environmental health inspections, assessments, and investigations including asbestos, lead, mold, moisture, radon, drinking water, and indoor air quality through sample collection, data interpretation, reporting, and recommending corrective actions.
- Provide project management support by developing Statements of Work, preparing Independent Government Estimates, reviewing invoices, and supporting procurement of IH and environmental services.
- Review abatement, remediation, and mitigation reports and workplans for asbestos, lead, mold, and related hazards to ensure completeness, regulatory compliance, and alignment with GSA requirements.
- Provide technical IH guidance for construction projects, including investigation, assessment, abatement oversight, mitigation planning, and monitoring activities.
- Respond to IH-related events, emergencies, and facility health and safety concerns as a technical agent of GSA, including travel as needed.
- Conduct facility inspections and risk assessments to ensure compliance with industrial hygiene, environmental, and occupational health and safety standards.
- Deliver internal expertise, training, and technical support to building managers, property managers, project managers, and other PBS personnel.
- Maintain required certifications, participate in continuous learning, and ensure IH practices align with current industry standards, tools, and methodologies.
- Ensure proper use of approved tools, methods, and processes, and maintain compliance with federal and industry requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in a science-related field.
- Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible industrial hygiene experience aligned with the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of IH sampling methods, laboratory analysis protocols, and environmental health assessment procedures.
- Strong communication skills with experience presenting technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and PDF editing tools.
- Current State of Colorado certifications: Asbestos Building Inspector, Asbestos Air Monitoring Specialist, and Lead Inspector.
- Current OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification with annual 8-hour refresher.
- Enrollment in medical surveillance and medical clearance for respiratory protection per 29 CFR 1910.134.
- Ability to maintain required competencies, certifications, and licensure in accordance with evolving IH industry standards.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and written communication skills.
