Job Description
Remote | Department: Products | Contractor | 15–20 hours per week
Learning Explorer is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented ELA Assessment Content Specialist to join our assessment team. This role is ideal for an experienced assessment developer or ELA educator with a strong background in assessment design, review, and item writing. The specialist will contribute to developing high-quality, standards-aligned benchmark assessments that help educators measure student progress and support effective instruction across K–12 grade levels.
Key Responsibilities
Develop Assessment Content
Create ELA assessment items aligned to state learning standards and state assessment blueprints, including technology-enhanced item types.
Ensure Content Quality
Apply assessment design best practices to ensure items are valid, rigorous, and clearly written.
Collaborate with the Assessment Team
Work closely with assessment managers and subject matter experts to review, refine, and improve assessment content.
Revise and Improve Items
Incorporate feedback and make revisions to maintain high-quality assessment standards.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
Experience
- Experience in assessment development and item writing
- Classroom teaching experience in secondary ELA preferred
- Strong familiarity with ELA curriculum and state learning standards
- Experience writing original reading passages and adapting source texts for use in assessment items is a plus
Skills
- Excellent writing, editing, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively and incorporate constructive feedback
Tools & Work Environment
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
- Familiarity with Trello and K–12 assessment management systems is a plus
- Comfortable working in a remote environment
- Ability to track personal work effort effectively and accurately
Availability
- Ability to work 15–20 hours per week with some flexibility based on school-year assessment development and review cycles
