Role Description
Offer independent advice on complex, high-value transactions and serve as a subject-matter expert in designated fields.
- Negotiate complex agreements and independently manage high-risk contracts, while offering guidance to junior staff.
- Direct and manage outside counsel on strategic or challenging matters.
- Oversee the implementation of privacy and compliance initiatives and proactively spot potential risks for business leaders; review contracts for compliance/privacy issues.
- Guide and track compliance programs, identifying and mitigating risks in intricate scenarios.
- Work collaboratively with business leaders to address legal challenges in various projects, initiatives, or workplace environments.
- Advise on legal best practices, recommend and implement process improvements.
- In consultation with the Chief Legal Officer, shape and implement departmental or functional strategic initiatives.
- Counsel internal stakeholders on employment issues and rote HR concerns.
- Mentor paralegals and legal staff, overseeing daily operations, task allocation, and maintaining quality standards.
- Manage client relations by negotiating contracts and balancing legal risks with business goals for specific projects.
- Efficiently handle multiple contracts, compliance issues, or disputes in a global setting.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree or foreign equivalent; Membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- 10+ years post-admission experience, including handling complex or high-value transactions.
- Substantial in-house corporate legal experience, ideally in technology - SAAS.
Requirements
- At least 5+ years of experience in commercial contracting, with substantial exposure to technology agreements.
- Strong working knowledge of privacy regulations (GDPR, ADA, CCPA, COPPA); experience with design and implementation of privacy and compliance programs.
- Proven ability to independently handle business litigation and disputes.
- Translate legal strategy into actionable guidance for complex or high-risk business decisions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including the ability to clearly explain legal concepts to business teams.
- Proven track record of effectively working with cross-functional teams and external counsel.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and pivot in accordance with changing business needs.
- Familiarity with HR needs/labor and employment law.
