The Office of Civil Legal Aid (OCLA) is an independent judicial branch state agency, created with the understanding that the provision of legal aid services to indigent persons is an important component of the state’s responsibility to provide for the proper and effective administration of justice. The mission of the Office of Civil Legal Aid is to secure, invest and oversee the use of public funding for civil legal aid to low-income people in Washington State and to ensure accountability for public funds dedicated to the purpose. Since 2005, OCLA has administered and overseen general civil legal aid in Washington. The agency supports numerous other programs including legal aid to victims of crime and domestic violence, children in foster care, kinship caregivers, indigent tenants facing eviction, and individuals reentering society following completion of their terms of incarceration.

Role Description

WSDOT is seeking an individual to serve as the statewide technical authority in geophysics, leading the integration of geophysical science with geological and engineering principles to support transportation infrastructure projects across Washington. The Transportation Geophysicist will provide expert leadership in geophysical surveying, advanced data analysis, and the application of remote sensing technologies to improve subsurface characterization and inform geotechnical planning and design decisions. In this role, you will:

  • Direct geophysical investigations.
  • Advance the use of innovative technologies.
  • Establish best practices for methodologies such as cone penetration testing (CPT), vane shear testing, and other specialized techniques.
  • Exercise independent professional judgment and provide expert consultation across the agency.

This position is required to perform work that includes regular travel throughout Washington State to conduct field investigations and geophysical surveys at project sites. Field investigations include outdoor conditions at construction and survey sites, including:

  • Exposure to weather.
  • Uneven terrain.
  • Heavy equipment.
  • Potential hazards associated with drilling operations and geophysical survey equipment.
  • Working at heights or in confined spaces, depending on project requirements.

Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate state-owned vehicles.
  • Ability to maneuver and transport various materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently in field conditions, including adverse weather, while maintaining high attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
