The Office of Civil Legal Aid (OCLA) is an independent judicial branch state agency, created with the understanding that the provision of legal aid services to indigent persons is an important component of the state’s responsibility to provide for the proper and effective administration of justice. The mission of the Office of Civil Legal Aid is to secure, invest and oversee the use of public funding for civil legal aid to low-income people in Washington State and to ensure accountability for public funds dedicated to the purpose. Since 2005, OCLA has administered and overseen general civil legal aid in Washington. The agency supports numerous other programs including legal aid to victims of crime and domestic violence, children in foster care, kinship caregivers, indigent tenants facing eviction, and individuals reentering society following completion of their terms of incarceration.

Role Description

The Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking analytical, highly motivated, and qualified individuals to fill permanent Correctional Records Technician (CRT) positions within various Tolling Units in the agency. The goal of the Correctional Records Technician is to enter, verify, and ensure an individual's tolling and sentence structure information is in compliance with appropriate laws and agency policy, for those under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections, for appropriate supervision within the community.

Appropriate tolling is necessary for the calculation of return and revoke time for confinement of certain sentence types. The CRT contributes to the agency's mission to improve public safety by completing audits, reviewing the electronic database information against the source documents, and resolving any issues from the sentence computation.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience maintaining or processing files such as legal files, property files, grievance files, administrative files, medical files, parole files, counselor files, or custody files, in a governmental law enforcement office, court setting, or an adult or juvenile correctional agency.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, the public, and/or criminal justice agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems under highly stressful or adverse situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize computer-based applications in the performance of job duties.
  • Maintain knowledge of Washington Sentence Structure, Records Procedures, and DOC Policy to ensure jurisdiction of supervision.

Requirements

  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete Tolling Unit competency test with at least 70% accuracy.
