Role Description
GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Cultural Resources Project Manager to lead and manage complex cultural resources impact assessments, permitting, and regulatory compliance efforts for projects in a variety of industries/sectors in the greater Southwest US region (Colorado, California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas). Responsibilities span project lifecycle management—from siting/routing, California Environmental Quality Act/National Environmental Policy Act (CEQA/NEPA) compliance and documentation to agency/tribal coordination/consultation and construction support—while ensuring adherence to related regulatory requirements.
- Lead cultural resource management strategy across the full project lifecycle for compliance under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
- Serve as the primary client contact and agency liaison focused on advancing a project forward.
- Prepare, submit, and track archaeological investigations; manage field surveys testing, and data recoveries/mitigations.
- Experienced with documenting large-scale inventories for multi-year projects.
- Leverage comprehensive understanding of CEQA and NEPA to identify potential project risks.
- Manage GAI technical personnel and field teams related to cultural resources tasks.
- Drive business development: identify opportunities, proposal strategy and writing.
- Mentor and train junior and mid-level cultural resources staff.
Qualifications
- Master’s or doctorate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in cultural resources studies with proven expertise.
- Strong project management skills with a successful track record.
- Excellent writing skills with proven ability to author, manage and review technical reports.
- Advanced understanding of multi-discipline characteristics within the cultural resource profession.
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in federal and state cultural resource laws and regulations.
- Extensive project experience in the Southwestern US.
- Proven success in business development resulting in sales generation.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Ability to travel (up to 25%) to project sites and meetings.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
Requirements
- Consultant experience with traditional and renewable energy and transportation.
- A listed Registered Professional Archaeologist.
- Established working relationships with BLM, Tribal Nations, and state agencies.
- This remote position prefers candidates to be in Arizona or California.
