WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- The American Red Cross’ Service to the Armed Forces Hero Care Center serves military members and their families worldwide, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Hero Care Center caseworkers are available 7 days a week, providing emergency assistance both online and by phone.
- Assists military commands in making decisions for emergency leave and serves as an overall resource for veterans and their families.
- Provides current military members and military retirees access to emergency and routine financial assistance.

PAY INFORMATION: The salary for this position is $20.63 base pay plus shift differential.
- 1st Shift: 6am – 6pm: Base Pay Only +$1.50 per hour
- 2nd Shift: 6pm – midnight: +$2.00 per hour, +$2.25 per hour for weekends
- 3rd Shift: midnight – 6am: +$2.50 per hour, +$2.75 per hour for weekends
This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.
- Interviews callers and coordinates requests for service, including recording all client information in the case management system.
- Determines eligibility for American Red Cross services and assesses client needs.
- Composes and delivers emergency communication messages to domestic and overseas military locations.
Standard Schedule: Our SAF Hero Care Center in Louisville, KY has an exciting career opportunity available for a full-time Hero Care Center Caseworker on the second shift. This position will be scheduled 40 hours per week, and the second shift runs from 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM, on a rotating day schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- Preferentially, this should include one year of work experience in a social service agency or service contact center.
- At least one year of customer-focused experience.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and military community required.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and typing speed of 40 wpm or higher.
- Strong computer skills, including use of Internet search tools, Intranet, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, complex, and dynamic environment.
- Ideal candidate will reside within 50 miles of the call center as needed to be in office as required.
