Role Description
The Sustainability and Impact Team at Planet is seeking a new Impact Engagement Manager. This role will have frontline responsibilities to work with Planet’s Impact, Commercial, and other teams, as well as external partners in areas like food security, disaster response, conservation, climate, and humanitarian action, to help us fulfill our mission to Use Space to Help Life on Earth.
The Impact Engagement Manager will ensure exceptional outcomes in every part of the lifecycle of an engagement, from conception and enablement to impact measurement. Your mission will be to become a trusted collaborator, with a strong understanding of our product suite and its application in impact-oriented use cases. You will need to establish and maintain trust with important partners and coordinate closely with many internal groups, including our Commercial, Product, Customer Success, and Marketing teams. Ideal candidates will be excited to partner with leading universities, NGOs and nonprofits, intergovernmental bodies, and companies across cultures and countries on implementing and scaling innovative technologies.
This is a full-time, remote position based in Nairobi, Kenya. It requires some travel within the region, as well as to Europe and North America.
Impact You’ll Own
- Coordinate Impact programs and special projects while making sure they are delivered with excellence, particularly those involving Planet’s digital public goods, sponsored programs, and expanding Planet’s impact throughout Africa.
- Demonstrate the potential of Planet products to have significant beneficial impact for potential customers, partners, and stakeholders.
- Onboard and orient new Impact partners and customers; support product provisioning with Global Customer Success and Technical Support teams.
- Build and maintain long-lasting, trusted relationships with Impact partners and customers, acting as a key point of contact.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with Impact partners and customers throughout the relationship and project lifecycle, elevating and resolving important issues when needed.
- Assist Impact partners and customers to expand their usage and adoption of our products, particularly in the areas of food security and resilient agriculture, digital inclusion, population change and migration, land tenure and management, and nature restoration and conservation.
- Work directly with internal stakeholder groups to make sure that Planet Impact projects are appropriately scoped and feasible, properly contracted, and set up for success, as well as unblock issues if and as they arise.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in customer support and engagement or a related field.
- Bachelors’ degree or equivalent.
- Good working knowledge of satellite remote sensing, GIS and geospatial products.
- Ability to successfully communicate and coordinate with international partners and customers, and across internal teams.
- Solid problem-solving skills, proactive work style, and ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Experience and interest in environmental stewardship, food security and livelihood improvement initiatives.
- Professional working proficiency in English, the language of the company.
- Ability to travel.
Requirements
- Proficiency in French or Arabic.
- Extensive experience working in the region, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing satellite remote sensing to support environmental conservation, humanitarian assistance, and/or climate change.
