Role Description

The Director of Risk Management sets the enterprise risk strategy and integrates it with broader organizational goals. This role directs Property & Casualty insurance programs, leads enterprise risk management (ERM) frameworks, and owns the total cost of risk (TCOR) agenda, balancing coverage, retention, and long‑range financial forecasting.

  • Embeds risk practices into core operations through cross‑functional partnerships (Legal, Finance, Safety, Operations, IT).
  • Applies analytics and RMIS technology to identify loss drivers and mitigation opportunities.
  • Develops KPIs that elevate transparency for executive and board audiences.
  • Success looks like a high‑performing team, optimized insurance structures, strong governance and compliance, and risk management leveraged as a competitive advantage.

Qualifications

  • At least 12 years of relevant risk management experience, including management experience, with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Deep expertise in commercial Property & Casualty insurance (program design, underwriting negotiations, broker management, layered structures, alternative risk financing).
  • Advanced knowledge of ERM frameworks (e.g., COSO ERM), claims administration, loss prevention, and RMIS/technology‑enabled reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to model total cost of risk (premium optimization, deductibles/retentions, captives if applicable) and conduct multi‑year financial forecasting.
  • Proven cross‑functional partnership with Legal, Finance, Safety, Operations, and IT to embed risk controls into business processes.
  • Exceptional executive communication skills, including board‑level reporting and presentations.
  • Preferred professional certifications: RIMS‑CRMP, CRM, FRM, CRCMP, or CRP.
  • Up to 25% travel.

Requirements

  • Lead enterprise P&C strategy: Own program design, broker oversight, underwriting, renewals, claims, and board‑level reporting.
  • Implement ERM & RMIS: Deploy ERM methodologies, risk registers, and RMIS/tech‑enabled reporting for standardized visibility and governance.
  • Own total cost of risk (TCOR): Optimize premiums and retentions/deductibles, evaluate captives (as applicable), and drive multi‑year financial forecasting.
  • Set enterprise risk policies: Establish policies for property, casualty, cargo, auto, cyber, environmental, and emerging risks aligned to growth.
  • Measure and report performance: Define KPIs for claims, broker effectiveness, loss trends, and program efficiency; brief executive leadership on exposures and trends.
  • Apply analytics and risk tech: Use advanced analytics and tools to identify loss drivers, model scenarios, and guide operational mitigation strategies.
  • Build and lead the team: Develop a high‑performing risk organization across insurance placement, claims, safety collaboration, and risk technology integration.
  • Leverage risk competitively: Turn risk optimization into business advantage while ensuring compliance with regulations, rating‑agency standards, and organizational imperatives.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance; HSA and FSA options.
  • Life and Disability coverage (basic and voluntary).
  • Voluntary Accident, Critical Illness, Identity & Fraud Protection, Auto & Home, and Pet Insurance.
  • Competitive benefits and 401(k) with company match.
  • Referral Bonus Program - Up to $500 per referral!
  • Paid Time Off including Holiday pay.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • A safe and clean work environment.
