Role Description
We are designing the grid of the future! EPE is looking to recruit Senior Principal with a strong background in EMT modeling and studies. In this role you’ll get to leverage your deep technical expertise and guide our clients through existing and emerging EMT requirements across a broad range of Utilities and ISOs/RTOs. This role is ideal for a technical expert who thrives on solving hard problems, building trusted relationships and enjoys mentoring others.
Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Team Development:
- Perform PSCAD and PSS/E model benchmarking for both generation and load projects in accordance with existing or emerging requirements to assist clients in demonstrating compliance.
- Develop and tune large load models.
- Lead automation efforts to improve efficiency in performing EMT modeling and model quality testing.
- Stay current with emerging EMT modeling requirements and participate in internal and external forums.
- Support more junior members of staff leveraging your technical skills to assist them in troubleshooting complex issues.
- Mentor and empower engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.
- Demonstrate extreme ownership by taking responsibility for outcomes, decisions, and overall project success.
- Enhance internal capability by coaching staff on both technical and client-facing skills.
- Enhance delivery frameworks, QA/QC processes to ensure projects are delivered effectively to the highest quality standards.

Client & Market Impact:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to generation and large load developers helping them navigate Eastern Interconnection evolving interconnection landscape.
- Translate complex technical issues into clear and actionable insights that accelerate client decision-making and support project success.
- Leverage strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to gather necessary input and make informed recommendations even in situations where there is inherent ambiguity.
- Lead reviews of interconnection studies and identify creative pathways to remove roadblocks and expedite projects.

Commercial & Strategic Growth:
- Identify and pursue new service lines and products.
- Support proposal and RFP development efforts.
- Contribute to EMT thought leadership through conferences, technical papers, and industry forums.
- Drive the development of internal tools and analytics that strengthen EPE’s position in the market.
Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of experience in the electric energy industry.
- Proven ability to connect the dots between technical depth and commercial strategy.
- Exceptional communicator who can influence and make decisions confidently under uncertainty.
- In-depth experience with EMT (ideally PSCAD) modeling of generation and load projects as well as benchmarking models across various platforms.
- Strong understanding of FERC, NERC, and ISO interconnection requirements and standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience in IBR modeling and/or load modeling.
Beneficial Experience
- Direct experience working at an ISO, Utility, or on behalf of these entities as a consultant.
- Beyond EMT, it would be beneficial if the candidate has prior experience with the traditional studies performed for gen/load interconnection or transmission planning.
- Real-time simulation familiarity (OPAL-RT, RTDS, etc).
- Automation experience (Python, C#, SQL).
