Role Description

The Adjunct Lecturer of Epidemiology provides high-quality online teaching and instruction to graduate students in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program. The faculty member serves as a subject matter expert in epidemiology and contributes to the delivery of an engaging, outcomes-oriented curriculum. The adjunct faculty member may also assist with curriculum development, course review, and other program initiatives to ensure academic rigor and relevance in the field of epidemiology.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned graduate-level online courses in Epidemiology (e.g., Introduction to Epidemiology, Advanced Epidemiology, or related courses).
  • Maintain course quality through curriculum maintenance, innovation of course content, assessment of learning outcomes, and appropriate documentation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in epidemiology and assist with course writing, revision, or review to ensure academic rigor and currency.
  • Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students on assignments and assessments in accordance with faculty handbook standards.
  • Assign grades and maintain accurate course records within the institution’s Learning Management System (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, or Brightspace).
  • Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner (generally within 48 hours) using the university’s assigned email system.
  • Participate in adjunct faculty meetings, meetings with the program director, and professional development activities as requested.
  • Collaborate with program faculty and leadership to support student success and continuous improvement of the MPH curriculum.
  • Address academic concerns including academic integrity, grade disputes, or student performance issues in coordination with program leadership.

Qualifications

  • PhD or DrPH in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology or closely related field (required).
  • MPH with a concentration in Epidemiology preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in epidemiology, public health research, or applied public health practice preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the university level, preferably in an online environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach graduate-level epidemiology courses preferred.

Technical and Professional Competencies

  • Experience with statistical and epidemiologic analysis software such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Stata.
  • Familiarity with online learning management systems such as Moodle, Blackboard, or Brightspace.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage diverse graduate students in an online learning environment.
  • Ability to interpret public health literature, scientific reports, and technical materials.

Work Environment

  • This position is typically performed remotely using the institution’s online learning systems and communication platforms.
  • May spend extensive amounts of time using a computer.
  • May spend extensive time standing or sitting to perform teaching related duties.
  • Ability to utilize technology necessary for teaching, grading and other required responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate with students via email, zoom, and/or phone.

Compensation

$4,607.61 for a 3 credit course
