Department/Organization: 209312 - ACCESS


Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings & weekends as necessary


Note to Applicants: Position is eligible for remote work subject to University policy.


Job Summary: The Career and Technical Education (CTE) ACCESS Teacher provides web-based instruction to State of Alabama high school students.


Additional Department Summary: Initiates and maintains regular contact with facilitators and students regarding student progress. Logs in to the learning management system at least once each day throughout any term in which they are assigned a course. Responds to student emails. Provides feedback on activities. Grades assignments. Monitors student participation. Creates and posts timely announcements. Monitors login times for students and discuss any areas of concern or irregularities with the facilitator, school administrator, or designee. Posts news items and events to keep students on pace and facilitators well informed of course activities and assignments. Previews all activities, links, and quizzes in the learning management system before assigning them to students.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Must meet the entry level qualifications of one of the categories listed in the Alabama State Department of Education Occupational Proficiency List. Must reside within the state of Alabama.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must clear the fingerprint/background check required by the Alabama State Department of Education for work with the ACCESS Virtual Learning Initiative.


Skills and Knowledge: Proficient in the use of the learning management system and other resources as identified and needed for successful course delivery. Knowledge and expertise in the specific content area and prior participation in professional development, sponsored by the providing institution, pertaining to instructional methodology and technical aspects of online course delivery. Strong digital communication and student engagement skills. Strong skills in Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, Power Point). Ability to learn other systems and applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with students, facilitators, counselors and school administration. Ability to teach within a Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver high quality instruction.


Preferred Qualifications: Advanced industry certifications/credentials. Experience in teaching in secondary, post secondary, or online environments. Experience with virtual instruction platforms and learning management systems. Industry experience.
