Role Description
Labcorp is seeking a US remote based Cytogenetics Technologist to join our team!
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am-430pm (candidate local time zone)
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform analysis of chromosomes, which includes imaging and karyotyping of cytogenetic specimens. Focus is primarily on constitutional blood cases, with a possibility of prenatal cases.
- Analyze chromosomes for count, structural abnormality, and morphology from computer acquired image of a metaphase according to appropriate SOP.
- Prepare preliminary report for interpretation by arranging (karyotyping) the different pairs of chromosomes identifying their proper numerical sequence.
- Enter analysis information into appropriate computer systems for director interpretation.
- Check karyotypes according to departmental and group procedures and protocols prior to director review.
- Ensure chromosomes are placed and oriented properly.
- Verify patient demographic information.
- Verify that karyotype matches written diagnosis.
- Ensure karyotypes are appropriate for director review based on test ordered and result.
- Remote transfer of electronic images to and from satellite reading labs for analysis.
- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory and computer equipment in designated area.
- Participate in proficiency testing as required, maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
- Attend all required meetings and represents laboratory in a professional manner.
- Participate in required continuing education activities.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the department and company.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
- 2 years or more of experience working in a Cytogenetics clinical laboratory.
- 1 or more years experience performing karyotyping.
- 1 or more years experience performing constitutional cytogenetics analysis.
Requirements
- 1 or more years experience with prenatal analysis.
- 1 or more years experience with Applied Spectral Imaging (ASI) software.
- ASCP certification in Cytogenetics (ASCP CG).
- Previous experience with cytogenetic analysis of metaphase spreads via computerized images.
- Computer skills; able to effectively use the Internet, email, text messaging, chat applications, and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Effective communication skills (oral, written, presentation), is an active listener, and effectively provides balanced feedback.
- Strong patient focus.
- Effectively manages own time, conflicting priorities, self, stress, and professional development.
- Self-motivated and self-starter with ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Work From Home Requirements
- A dedicated home office space that isn’t shared and meets HIPAA compliance.
- Agree to have your home address added to reports of cases you analyze or report. This is a CMS requirement.
- Provide wired or wireless internet at a minimum speed of 100 mb/sec.
- Ability to work remotely effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment with demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and demands.
