Job Description

 Education:    Required - Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program and certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Nurse Practitioner Program and certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Employees shall meet the requirements of their Board of Medical Examiners; and be licensed to practice medicine without restrictions within the state or federal installation. Must hold current APP License and be eligible to work Nationwide.

Experience:  Required - A minimum of three (3) years of Nurse Practitioner experience in a Family Practice setting is required. Experience with pediatric and adult populations to include completing physical assessments are required. Prior RN experience is preferred. Bilingual (Spanish and English) communication skills are required.        
 
Supervision Exercised:    Provides team leadership to Clinical Staff

Essential Functions:
1.    Possess a clear understanding of BCFS HHS, and Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) protocols for illness, injury, medication administration and emergency situations.
2.    Ability to exhibit clear communication skills with clinic staff, command staff and physicians.
3.    Establishes health care plans for service population utilizing best practice provider guidelines.
4.    Complete accurate documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures, contract and regulatory requirements and standards and program timeline requirements.
5.    Review, write and update medical protocols and procedures in collaboration with Medical Services Division and Residential Services Division Professional Management Team.
6.    Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program and federal partners

Measurable Deliverables:
1.    Practice of medicine within the scope of license
2.    Practice of medicine within the scope of training
3.    Practice of medicine within the scope of credentialing
4.    Practice of medicine in accordance with the current standards of care
5.    Meet and maintain all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
6.    See patients in the shelter medical unit (a broad-spectrum office that serves all pediatric and adult ages and conditions) on a permanent basis, which may involve extended, weekend and holiday hours.
7.    Provide medical services within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing.
8.    Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual patient care appropriate to the age of patients served by demonstrative knowledge of the principles of growth and development
9.    Conduct medical examinations and immunizations according to contract guidelines.
10.    Communicates appropriately with the person served regardless of their age
11.    Complete charting and required paperwork in a timely manner and per guidelines.
12.    Round on nurse calls to other office locations if needed and as directed.
13.    Participation in the development/review of office policies and support of the RN manager in their duties.
14.    Provide Emergency Management Division (EMD) support as needed when on call or during office hours.
15.    Promote a safety-conscious work place and maintains good housekeeping practices.
16.    Abide by all appropriate policies & procedures, with an emphasis on strict adherence to ethical codes
17.    Ability to perform in dynamic, fast-paced, stressful environments associated with disaster response situations nationwide.
18.    Maintains situational awareness of weather events, disasters or potential disasters in area of operation and around the world.
19.    Performs other duties as required or assigned

Credentials, Skills and Abilities -Requirements:
1.    Proof of valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing with no restrictions.
2.    Maintain current licenses and certificates required for the position including, but not limited to:

a.    Good standing as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) within the state of practice or at minimum within another state if operations are based on Federal property or part of a disaster response where disaster licensing is permitted.

b.    Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.

c.    Current DEA certificate without restriction

3.    Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.

4.    Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
5.    Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
6.    Demonstrate the ability to:

a.    Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics

b.    Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, professionals and clients

c.    Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English

d.    Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure at all times and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population

e.    Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position

f.    Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team

g.    Deployment history with BCFS during medical sheltering for a combined 2 months’ timeframe preferred but not required.
h.    Must be capable of working extended hours and days without R&R
i.    Must have a secure family support system during those extended days being deployed
j.    Able to accept sleeping arrangement when hotel accommodations are not available
7.    Must complete and sign Operations Policy and Procedure review and certification
8.    Must provide current physical-medical release and provide proof of immunizations, titers or declinations for the following:

  • a.    MMR

  • b.    Varicella

  • c.    HepB

  • d.    HepA

  • e.    Tetanus

  • f.    PPD or Chest X-ray

  • g.    Meningococcal (preferred)

  • h.    Flu Vaccine

  • i.    COVID-19 Vaccine(s)

9.    Must be able to perform physical activity such as extensive walking, lifting of patients, stretching and bending
10.    Must be able to work in a team environment
11.    Must be able to maintain professional people skills, oral, written, listening, and non-verbal communication skills
