Job Description

Scale LLP, a national, fully distributed law firm, is seeking a Litigation Associate with at least five years of experience in white collar litigation at a top-tier law firm to support our growing national litigation practice. We are a firm built for high-performing attorneys who want the freedom to shape and grow their practices without the bureaucracy and overhead of traditional Big Law. This role is fully remote, but residence in the DC area is preferred.

Our White Collar Defense & Internal Investigation team represents companies and individuals in high-stakes criminal, civil, and regulatory matters. This role offers substantial responsibility, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to work on sophisticated matters typically handled by larger firms while maintaining a collaborative and flexible working environment.

Who We Are:
Founded by former tech GCs, Scale was created to rethink the traditional law firm model - removing inefficiency and outdated economics while preserving what matters most: exceptional legal work, sophisticated clients, and professional credibility. Our mission? Build the best remote law firm in the country. Scale's attorneys work for a variety of clients across Litigation, Corporate, and Intellectual Property practice groups.

The Opportunity
This role offers something rare: as a Scale Associate, you will have the opportunity to work directly with world class attorneys who have practiced in-house, in government, and in the AmLaw 100.  You will:

  • Represent individuals and companies in government and internal investigations, including those conducted by the Department of Justice and state and federal civil enforcement agencies;
  • Handle all phases of complex criminal and civil litigation, including drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs; managing discovery; taking and defending depositions; and preparing for trial;
  • Interface directly with clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel;
  • Coordinate with experts, consultants, and co-counsel on complex matters; and
  • Conduct legal research and develop litigation strategies.

About You:

  • You have at least five years of substantive, hands-on, law firm experience preferably in white collar defense, investigations, or regulatory enforcement.
  • Ideally, your background includes:
    • Representing individuals and organizations in government investigations, enforcement actions, and white collar criminal matters:
    • Conducting legal research, drafting motions, briefs, and memoranda;
    • Managing discovery, including document review, analysis, and production;
    • Assisting with internal investigations, witness interviews, and case strategy;
    • Participating in all aspects of civil litigation, including depositions, hearings, and trial preparation.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong academic credentials.

Compensation & Opportunities:

  • Base Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 based on experience
  • Quarterly bonuses tied directly to clear, objective success metrics
  • Full benefits package and the flexibility of Scale LLP’s distributed law firm model

A career track that emphasizes advancement, leadership opportunities, and broad exposure across the full spectrum of Litigation matters.

We emphasize the importance of community within our remote-first structure. Attorneys are afforded many different opportunities – both virtual and in-person -- for connection, mentoring, best practice sharing and client development.
