In this role, you’ll review and evaluate mortgage loan applications, analyze borrower qualifications, and make critical lending decisions using internal underwriting standards along with FNMA, FHLMC, and government guidelines. What You’ll Do
- Review loan applications to determine the appropriate funding source and loan program
- Calculate income for all borrower types and review complex tax returns and financial statements
- Analyze multiple funding sources to determine overall borrower creditworthiness
- Evaluate risk related to borrowers, collateral, and the overall transaction
- Review loan documentation and request additional information when needed

Provide final underwriting approvals for conventional and government mortgage loans, including:
- Leaseholds
- Construction loans
- Non-owner occupied properties
- Condominiums
- Mortgage insurance secured loans
- Higher-risk loan scenarios
- Underwrite credit, capacity, and collateral according to established policies and procedures
- Complete all required documentation accurately and within required timelines
- Communicate effectively with staff and management to meet deadlines
- Maintain organized records, files, e-folders, and database entries
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations
- Follow FNMA, FHLMC, HUD, VA, and industry underwriting standards
- Support team initiatives and assist with additional duties as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, but not required
- 3+ years of mortgage underwriting experience preferred
- Related military training or experience may substitute for education or work experience

Preferred certifications include:
- VA Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) and underwriting authority
- FHA DE Underwriting authority with valid CHUMS number
- HUD 184 underwriting authority
