Position Overview
CyberData Technologies is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Modeling and Simulation Specialist to support evaluation, research, and data analysis efforts for diabetes prevention programs led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This position plays a key role in designing applied research methods, developing statistical models, managing large datasets, and simulating outcomes to evaluate the impact of chronic disease prevention interventions, particularly for the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP).
The ideal candidate will combine technical acumen with strong statistical and public health expertise, enabling the delivery of high-impact insights that inform national policy and program improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Applied Research & Evaluation Design
- Develop methodologies to assess the effectiveness and utilization of diabetes prevention interventions.
- Design and implement data collection instruments for both quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., focus groups, interviews, surveys).
- Analyze evaluation and implementation data using advanced statistical and modeling techniques to generate insights for decision-making.
- Prepare concept papers, reports, manuscripts, and detailed recommendations for improving program design and delivery.
- Identify best practices and formulate data-driven policy recommendations for national translation efforts, including the National DPP and Diabetes Self-Management Education programs.
Statistical Analysis, Modeling & Data Simulation
- Conduct advanced data modeling and simulation to evaluate diabetes risk factors, program outcomes, and potential policy impacts in underserved communities.
- Design and maintain relational databases for data storage, manipulation, retrieval, and quality control across multiple platforms and networks.
- Write custom programs in SAS, SQL, R, and other statistical tools to automate data processing, generate reproducible analytics, and produce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with evaluators, statisticians, and program stakeholders to define evaluation questions, build scalable data pipelines, and ensure rigorous methodology.
Data Visualization & Dissemination
- Create compelling visualizations (dashboards, charts, GIS maps, motion graphics) using Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, and ArcGIS.
- Summarize findings into user-friendly products for internal staff, CDC leadership, and external stakeholders.
- Present research at local, regional, and national conferences, contributing to the national evidence base on diabetes prevention and public health modeling.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Health Informatics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in:
- Applied public health research
- Statistical modeling and simulation
- Evaluation of chronic disease programs
- Proficiency in:
- Statistical software: SAS (required), R, SUDAAN, Stata
- Data management & querying: SQL (required), MS Access, SQL Server
- Visualization tools: Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, ArcGIS (preferred)
- Programming languages such as C+ or similar (desirable)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Research and evaluation methods
- Implementation science
- Health data standards and data privacy practices
- Excellent writing, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative data integration preferred.
