Job Description

Overview

 

Division Counsel, Default Title Operations acts as a lead attorney providing specialized, high-level legal advice and strategic guidance to the default title business units. This position will work with business operations management to establish a claims process, audit the default title process, resolve claims, and provide strategic advice for mitigating risk throughout the default title life cycle.  This position reports to the Chief Legal Officer.

 

Objectives of this role

  • Assess the default title business lines from an operational and legal risk perspective.
  • Create and implement improved operational disciplines on default title processes to prevent and minimize risk and claims, including creating training for team members.
  • Create quality control and audit controls for all default title business lines.
  • Develop and implement claims handling policies and procedures.
  • Provide legal advice and support to the default title business units.  Be the escalation support for operations related to complex default transactional issues.
  • Manage claims and coordinate with external counsel, as necessary. 
  • Conduct legal research and keep abreast of legislative changes

Division Counsel Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of legal experience, preferably in handling mortgage loan default matters, specifically foreclosure and bankruptcy practices.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced legal environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong background in regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Admitted to the state bar and in good standing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity
