Role Description
Manage the Payroll Payment Team. Supervise a team of three staff. Oversee payroll runs, and process and review all gross payments to university employees. Review and approve off-cycle payments. Pay related inquiries and issues. Train and mentor team members. Work with departmental and university leadership.
This position is currently remote but may require occasional campus visits. Please note that work arrangements are subject to change based on university policy.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Payment Team to ensure timely and accurate employee payments and quality service to the university.
- Ensure coverage for all critical processes on time-sensitive tasks in order to meet processing deadlines.

Provide direction and oversight for processes impacting pay, including:
- compensation
- one-time payments
- retroactivity
- pay groups
- time entry
- manual payments
- check cancellations/reversals
- team emails
- overpayments and collection efforts
- Oversee each payroll run, including the monthly, semi-monthly, and off-cycle payrolls to ensure timely and accurate payments.
- Create, review and approve various transactions including One Time Payments, Pay Input, Manual Payments and EIBs to record salary and adjustments as required.
- Coordinate with other teams within the department to ensure a thorough review and follow-up on issues prior to pay complete.
- Provide subject matter expert customer service to employees, departmental contact, HR colleagues and the leadership team in both Payroll Services and AFM.
- Provide information via email, phone, meetings and presentations to campus regarding payments and Payroll policies and procedures.
- Assist team with responses to email and phone inquiries, research and analyze questions from campus departments, and provide support for escalation of issues as appropriate.
- Counsel, mentor and evaluate job performance of team members.
- Encourage development and promote learning opportunities.
- Help foster cooperation within the office to provide a positive and healthy work environment.
- Provide leadership, promote integrity, teamwork, respect, opportunity, ownership and open communication with others.
- Other related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience in a supervisory/manager capacity.
- Proven excellent customer service experience, including excellent written and verbal skills.
- Knowledge of Payroll, HR Compensation, and Accounting concepts.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Experience in university accounting.
Salary Range
- $76,000
Working Conditions
- Standard 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday.
- Manual dexterity.
- Daily use of a keyboard and desktop computer.
