Role Description

The Associate Category Manager is responsible for driving category management principles through application of strong analytics to develop value-added category solution initiatives and profitable business building strategies for key retailers focusing in the Grocery channel. This position will develop and employ category best practices and deliver consumer and shopper insights in support of our category strategies.

  • Category Management responsibility for multiple categories across multiple retail partners in an omni-channel market landscape focusing on Grocery channel developmental accounts
  • Analyze category trends and shopper insights as well as brand level performance, utilizing POS data (syndicated and custom), panel data, loyalty card data, and retailer gateways
  • Acts as the category and competition subject matter expert for interfacing with internal headquarters business groups and provides fact based selling support for sales management
  • Establish strong working relationships with retailer category managers, providing objective, “category focused” analytical support as needed
  • Provide retailer category management and internal customers with weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting according to their needs, along with any ad hoc business questions
  • Responsible for understanding Shopper Insights and applying those shopper insights to category/brand sales presentations
  • Train sales partners on all levels of category management topics including consumer dynamic data, syndicated data, market structure data, shopper insights, opportunity gaps, competitive landscapes, and measurements to optimize shelf space
  • Assortment and planogram recommendations, including reset timing, accuracy, and improvement opportunities (knowledge planogram software a plus)
  • Some travel is required (20 – 30%) as needed for customer and internal meetings

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Sales, Marketing, Finance or related field
  • +3 years of related professional category management and shopper insights experience within the broader CPG industry
  • Experience with category management processes, systems, internal protocols, data analysis, and shopper insights
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with customers and retailers – experience in retailer relations preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Detail oriented, proficient in gathering, compiling, and analyzing data which results in the output and presentation of actionable insights by creating a fact-based presentations in the form of “storytelling”
  • Proficient in leveraging Category Management principles, Circana, Nielsen, Shopper/Consumer insights, retailer loyalty data, Richmix, Numerator insights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization
  • Self-directed, critical thinker with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers with the ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, respond with urgency to requests and remain focused on strategic imperatives
  • Advanced collaboration skills with a team-player and growth mindset
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and storytelling capabilities with ability to prioritize
  • Project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines and customer requests, both internal and external
  • Ability for overnight travel on a periodic basis (20-30%) as needed for in person for customer appointments
  • Must be team-oriented with the ability to work in high performance & collaboration environment
