Role Description

The Controls Retrofit Engineer is responsible for leading complex retrofit engineering projects including control system design, control panel engineering, PLC, HMI, and robotics programming, and providing site start-up support of material-handling equipment and automation equipment for the material handling, manufacturing, and logistics industries.

  • Serves as subject matter expert on retrofit control systems and electrical engineering principles.
  • Provides control systems design technical leadership in a matrixed environment.
  • Applies electrical engineering principles to analyze, propose, design, program, test, and troubleshoot control systems.
  • Reviews contract documentation and customer specifications.
  • Supports realization team on project installation, commissioning, and testing of control systems.
  • Develops technical documentation including control system specifications and engineering procedures.
  • Frequently interacts with customers and suppliers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of controls engineering experience, preferably in a material-handling, industrial, or manufacturing environment.
  • Some retrofit experience preferred.

Requirements

  • 40 – 60% of travel as required.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC ladder logic and programming.
  • Proficiency in Siemens, Rockwell, and Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Thorough understanding of fieldbus systems and I/O equipment (e.g., Profibus, Profinet, ASi, TCP/IP).
  • Advanced understanding of other controls automation-related equipment (e.g., Bar code scanners, HMIs, Variable frequency drives).
  • Knowledgeable on AC drives, both open & closed loop.
  • Experience in Ethernet IP network design and machine safety a plus.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint, & Excel.
  • Excellent documentation and technical writing for product manuals, work instructions, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to remain stationary at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to go to site frequently and move safely around industrial and/or warehouse environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices.
  • Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing, on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
