Role Description

This role provides an opportunity to support the measurement and reporting of journalistic impact in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. You will manage and improve systems used to track content reach, policy influence, and audience engagement, ensuring workflows are efficient, accurate, and actionable. The position involves working with tools like Airtable and Asana to maintain data integrity, create dashboards, and provide insights that guide editorial planning and strategic decisions. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable collaborating with remote teams while working independently. This contractor role allows you to contribute meaningfully to a nonprofit media organization’s mission while applying your expertise in analytics, workflow management, and impact measurement.

  • Maintain and update impact tracking databases, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency across records.
  • Manage and enhance workflows in tools like Airtable and Asana to support editorial planning and operational efficiency.
  • Track and report key indicators of journalistic impact, including media citations, republications, policy mentions, partnerships, and audience reach.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools for internal teams and funder reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data capture, system organization, and reporting processes.
  • Support editorial and leadership teams with documentation, periodic check-ins, and impact reviews.
  • Provide recommendations to enhance systems and workflows related to editorial operations and impact tracking.

Qualifications

  • Experience in journalism, nonprofit media, or newsroom operations.
  • Proven experience tracking journalistic impact, such as policy changes, citations, republications, and partnerships.
  • Strong proficiency in Airtable; familiarity with Asana or Trello is a plus.
  • Experience building, maintaining, or improving data tracking systems or dashboards.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration.
  • Ability to work approximately 40 hours per month as an independent contractor, preferably within Eastern Time Zone hours.
