Role Description
We’re looking for an Insurance Authorization Specialist to join our growing team at HELM! You’ll be working with our client in the Physical Therapy industry in a remote capacity.
In this role, you will manage:
- Insurance verification
- Pre-certifications
- Authorizations
- Denial resolution for a busy physical therapy and chiropractic practice
You will work with:
- Commercial insurance
- Medicare
- PIP (motor vehicle accident) cases
The ideal candidate has:
- Strong physical therapy insurance experience
- Deep understanding of authorization workflows
- Initiative to prevent denials
- Critical thinking skills
Responsibilities:
- Verify commercial insurance benefits and Medicare coverage
- Handle PIP (motor vehicle accident) case verification and follow-up
- Obtain pre-certifications and authorizations for physical therapy, chiropractic services, MRIs, and durable medical equipment
- Review denial reasons carefully and determine corrective action
- Prepare and submit appeals when necessary
- Monitor visit counts and ensure authorizations are triggered at appropriate milestones
- Communicate with insurance adjusters and, when necessary, attorneys
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation within the EHR system
- Track authorization status and follow up proactively
- Support reporting and monitoring of denials and revenue-impacting trends
Qualifications
- Physical Therapy Experience is preferred
- Strong experience with insurance verification and authorizations in a physical therapy setting (required)
- Experience handling commercial insurance, Medicare, and PIP cases
- Experience obtaining and appealing pre-certifications
- Ability to analyze denial reasons and identify missing documentation
- Experience working with EHR systems (ClinicMind experience a plus)
- Strong Excel skills for tracking and reporting
- Clear and confident spoken English
- Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical thinking
- Proactive and comfortable taking initiative
- Reliable home office setup with strong internet connection
