Job Description

We're looking for a pragmatic, senior engineer with significant experience building Ruby on Rails applications. In this Engineering Manager role, you’ll maintain an 80/20 split—spending the bulk of your time as a high-impact individual contributor while taking on the responsibility of a people manager; you’ll have direct reports and will be responsible for their professional growth, performance, and support.

Doximity is transforming the healthcare industry. Join our mission to help every physician be more productive and provide better care for their patients. As medicine's largest network in the United States, there's an elevated level of responsibility in everything we do. We don't take that responsibility lightly and are committed to building diverse teams with an inclusive culture that can make a direct impact on the healthcare system.

One of Doximity's core values is stretching ourselves. Even if you don't check off all the boxes below we encourage you to apply. Doximity is full of exceptional people who bring their own unique experiences to work everyday and make us all better for it!

This role can be filled in our San Francisco office OR remotely in North America, Central or South America.

Here’s How You’ll Make An Impact

As an Engineering Manager at Doximity you will be expected to roll-up your sleeves and make substantial individual technical contributions for 70-80% of your time. As you will lead a team of 3-5 software engineers, the rest of your time will be focused on people management.

  • You will play a liaison role alongside Engineering, Product, and Data teams.
  • You will contribute to the technical direction of software products.
  • You will aid in planning, retrospectives, and devise effective delegation strategies for you and your team.
  • You will review code, write technical proposals, and help your team grow by recruiting, training, and aiding in career progression plans.
  • You will strive to keep the team pragmatic, shipping, and focused on adding business value while maintaining a cohesive software stack.

We believe experienced and passionate, hands-on software engineers make for great Engineering Managers.

About You

  • You are a software engineer first and foremost; excited to roll up your sleeves and help with hands-on engineering problems.
  • You enjoy leading projects and teams including planning the iterative delivery of high-quality solutions.
  • You have a deep understanding of modern programming disciplines using languages such as Ruby and TypeScript.
  • Experience with technologies like GraphQL, WebRTC, VOIP, observability tools, and AI-assisted software development is a plus.
  • You have a passion for software architecture and systems design; always looking for opportunities to make high-quality contributions to modern, production web applications.
  • You default to concise and effective written and verbal communication.
  • You are passionate about helping others improve and grow their career.
  • Your leadership style is servant to the team and starts with empathy; you trust your team to make the right decision and empower them to execute.
  • You're good at giving clear, constructive feedback and helping engineers grow.
