Job Description

Honeycomb

At Honeycomb, we're not just building technology, we’re reshaping the future of insurance.

In 2025, Honeycomb was recognized by Dun & Bradstreet as “Top 10 Best Start Up Companies to Work For” in Israel and named by LinkedIn as “Top 10 Startups in Chicago”.

How did we earn these honors?

Honeycomb is a rapidly growing global startup, generously backed by top-tier investors and powered by an exceptional team of thinkers, builders, and problem-solvers. Dual-headquartered in Chicago and Tel Aviv (R&D center), and with 5 offices across the U.S., we are reinventing the commercial real estate insurance industry, an industry long overdue for disruption. Just as importantly, we ensure every employee feels deeply connected to our mission and one another.

With over $55B in insured assets, Honeycomb operates across 20+ major states, covering 60% of the U.S. population and increasing its coverage.

If you’re looking for a place where innovation is celebrated, culture actually means something, and smart people challenge you to be better every day - Honeycomb might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.

The Director of Actuarial is a critical position supporting Honeycomb’s Underwriting Team. In this role, you will report to Honeycomb’s Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) and work closely with the Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and Product/Engineering teams. You will be responsible for pricing, reserving analysis, rate indications, and ensuring data quality to effectively run the business. As a leader, you will be a thought partner in strategic initiatives, product development, and underwriting execution. You possess excellent analytical skills, communicate well, and can manage multiple priorities in a high-paced environment. Your impact will influence growth, profitability, and Honeycomb’s overall success.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct regular rate indication analyses and make recommendations to the CUO and Underwriting team for rate adjustments
  • Analyze loss performance of Honeycomb’s product and make recommendations to drive growth and improve profitability
  • Conduct quarterly reserves to develop ultimate loss ratios by line of business
  • Act as a liaison to Honeycomb’s capital and reinsurance partners to align profitability performance and goals
  • Act as the data owner for the Underwriting team to ensure that the team has high quality data and the right access to drive decisions
  • Establish key performance indicators and develop reporting to ensure the health of Honeycomb’s business
  • Assist the Underwriting team with product filings to ensure successful rate and product approvals with state Departments of Insurance for admitted products
  • Drive business and pricing segmentation initiatives to leverage pricing as a key product differentiator and competitive advantage
  •

What You Bring

  • 10 years+ of actuarial experience related to pricing or reserving with an insurance carrier or MGA
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) highly preferred
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Good presentation skill and the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to distill key actuarial concepts to others in non-technical terms
  • Ability to understand the business holistically and think strategically

 Benefits

  • Salary: $200,000 - $225,000
  • Bonus: 15%
  • ISO stock options
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents
  • HSA with company contributions
  • 401(k) (non-matching)
  • Flexible time off
  • 10 company-paid holidays
