We are seeking a visionary and experienced AI Platform Owner with experience leading large complex initiatives and teams to own the development and deployment of scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI) Authoring applications and platforms within our data and technology organization. Position Summary: 
As part of Vertex’s Data and Software Engineering team, this role will report to the Senior Director, AI Platforms and is responsible for driving platform architecture, requirements, delivery, and availability for our enterprise Artificial Intelligence (AI) Authoring platforms and other AI platform capabilities as assigned. With an initial focus on evolving and supporting Vertex’s end-to-end global regulatory document authoring capability, this role will have long-lived assignments that involve end-to-end ownership of platform definition, planning, development, rollout, enhancements, and operational support for assigned AI solutions. To excel in this role, candidates must have excellent technology and project management skills, have an advanced understanding of current and anticipated AI authoring capabilities, and have awareness of regulatory documentation needs and processes in the life sciences industry.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Strategic Leadership - Develop and execute a strategic vision for AI Authoring Platforms, aligning vendor product capabilities and internally developed solutions with Vertex's overall goals and objectives.
  • Platform Roadmaps - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, business engagement, and business subject matter experts to define and prioritize platform roadmaps.
  • Platform Management - Oversee the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered authoring tools and platform to ensure alignment with capability, usability, scalability, reliability, and budget goals.
  • Technical Innovation - Continuously drive the integration of advanced AI technologies with technology management best practices to enhance the overall AI platform. Build and maintain relationships with industry partners and technology providers to drive innovation.
  • Team Leadership - Leverage a matrixed delivery model to source internal and external delivery and support talent. Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and ensure the team is equipped with the resources and support needed to succeed.
  • Stakeholder Communication - Represent the AI Authoring Platforms team in executive meetings, providing updates on progress, capabilities, metrics, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Monitoring and Optimization - Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of the AI authoring platforms. Continuously evaluate and optimize platform performance, ensuring it meets or exceeds user expectations.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proven track record of successfully leading the development, implementation, launch, and support of enterprise AI-driven products or platforms.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience building and leading internal, external, and matrixed teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced understanding of AI technologies, frameworks, models, and tools
  • Technical expertise in architecting generative AI solutions including large language models and retrieval-augmented generation with a focus on automating complex data-driven document workflows.
  • Knowledge of building and/or deploying scalable global solutions on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with AI Governance, validation, and compliance (GxP) within a regulated industry.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
  • Understanding of regulatory document authoring processes in life sciences strongly preferred.
  • Life sciences experience strongly preferred.
Education and Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in technology leadership roles, with a focus on AI, machine learning, engineering, or technical platform management
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).

Pay Range:

$216,400 - $324,600

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Remote-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as: 
1.    Remote: work remotely five days per week and come into the office on occasion – you’re always welcome on-site; or select 
2.    Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
3.    On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
