Job Description

Role Description

The Director of Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center (MECCC) and Vice President of Cancer Medicine will serve as the executive leader responsible for advancing the Center’s mission and vision, driving scientific excellence, and ensuring the Center’s continued distinction as a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Director reports to the Dean of Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the President and CEO of Montefiore Einstein and serves as chief cancer advisor to the Dean and CEO.

  • Responsible and accountable for all administrative functions and operations related to the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).
  • Develop strategic priorities related to NCI designation, including governance, basic, translational, clinical and population science, clinical trials, clinical care, education and training, and community outreach and engagement.
  • Ensure exceptional performance of all CCSG-supported components, including six essential characteristics, four translational research programs, and eight shared resources.
  • Lead efforts to align cancer priorities and scientific excellence across Montefiore Einstein.
  • Develop a cancer enterprise steering committee and partner with the Center’s Associate Director for Clinical Services.
  • Oversee the budget and finances for the Center and the strategic allocation of all resources.
  • Strengthen and advance MECCC’s community outreach and engagement initiatives.
  • Promote training and mentor early- and mid-career investigators.
  • Develop strategic priorities and lead fundraising initiatives for cancer-related philanthropy.
  • Promote seamless coordination of all marketing and public relations efforts related to research, clinical care, education, and community outreach.
  • Review academic reappointments/promotions of MECCC faculty.
  • Assume responsibility for the oversight, conduct, and reporting of all required elements relevant to cancer clinical research.

Qualifications

  • MD, PhD or equivalent degree required.
  • Nationally and internationally recognized scientist with sustained and active peer-reviewed funding from NIH and/or NCI.
  • Accomplished progressive senior leadership experience in a complex academic environment within an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.
  • Demonstrated visionary and strategic leadership with outcomes and impact to advance the mission of MECCC.
  • Proven experience in managing the complex processes required as part of the NCI CCSG application review processes.
  • Record of building and managing effective multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in recruitment, mentoring, and development of outstanding faculty and staff.
  • Proven experience in transdisciplinary research with ability to expand revenue streams.
  • Experience in building strategic and trusted relationships to advance the vision and mission of MECCC.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage the financial health of MECCC.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation Range

The base salary range for this position is $300-350,000. In addition, this executive will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus, retirement plan, and additional benefits. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.
