Role Description
A physiotherapist, also known as a physical therapist, is a healthcare professional who specializes in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating a variety of physical conditions and injuries. The goal of physiotherapy is to restore and maintain optimal physical function and mobility, as well as to relieve pain.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Patient Assessment
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients to determine their physical condition, limitations, and needs.
- Review medical history and collaborate with other healthcare professionals for a comprehensive understanding of the patient's situation.

Treatment Planning
- Develop personalized treatment plans based on the assessment findings and the patient's goals.
- Use a variety of techniques, exercises, and modalities to address specific issues and promote overall well-being.

Rehabilitation
- Provide rehabilitation services to individuals recovering from surgery, injury, or illness.
- Implement therapeutic exercises, stretches, and manual techniques to improve strength, flexibility, and coordination.

Pain Management
- Use various pain management techniques to alleviate pain and discomfort.
- Educate patients on self-management strategies to prevent and manage pain independently.

Education
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment plans, and preventive measures.
- Instruct on proper body mechanics and ergonomics to prevent future injuries.

Monitoring Progress
- Regularly assess and reassess patients to track progress and modify treatment plans as needed.
- Use outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

Collaborative Care
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, and occupational therapists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss and coordinate treatment plans.

Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Adhere to confidentiality and privacy regulations.

Communication
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Provide clear instructions and guidance on home exercises and self-care.

- Demonstrate empathy and compassion in patient interactions.
- Support patients emotionally as they navigate the challenges of rehabilitation.

- Adhere to ethical standards and professional codes of conduct.
- Maintain licensure and meet any continuing education requirements.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or a two-year accelerated Masters course, with a relevant bachelor’s degree.
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT).
- License to operate as a physiotherapist.
