Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an AVP of Digital Product - Stop Loss!
About the role
As the AVP of Digital Product - Stop Loss, you will set and lead the long‑term product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for a critical product line. You will use your business and technical expertise to shape digital product direction, guide investment decisions, and manage products end‑to‑end across their lifecycle.
You will define clear value propositions, influence senior stakeholders, and make strategic recommendations on when to enhance, scale, replace, or retire products. You may oversee a portfolio of related products or a single, enterprise‑critical platform with complex dependencies.
What You will Do
- Drive and communicate product strategy aligned to enterprise goals, partnering with customers, business leaders, and technology teams to secure resources and ensure a healthy product lifecycle.
- Apply Agile practices to deliver high‑quality solutions, partnering with the product owner to maintain a clear, outcome‑driven backlog while guiding delivery teams, managing risks and dependencies, and championing continuous improvement.
- Serve as the strategic authority for your product domain, tailoring communication for diverse audiences, clearly articulating product vision and strategy, and leading vendor relationships.
- Use qualitative and quantitative insights to evaluate impact, inform strategic product decisions, identify opportunities, and lead analyses such as Return on Investment, cost‑benefit, and root‑cause assessments.
- Mentor product managers, champion user‑centered product development, inspire and align cross‑functional teams, stay current on industry trends, and consistently model strong leadership behaviors.
- Engage in continuous learning, stay current with product management best practices, and actively participate in communities of practice.

Compensation
Salary Range: $141,600 - $236,000 plus eligibility for annual bonus program
Who You Are
- You have a high school diploma (required) or a bachelor’s degree (preferred).
- You have 15-20 years of relevant work experience and at least 5 years of experience in a highly regulated industry or specialized domain.
- You have experience developing large-scale solutions from start to finish, specifically in a leadership role.
- You bring advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, able to turn abstract or ambiguous information into clear insights.
- You are an experienced leader who provides strategic direction and effectively mentors others.
- You excel at influencing and educating partners at all levels, including senior leaders.
- You are skilled in negotiations, consensus-building, and facilitation across large, cross-functional groups.
- You foster collaboration, build trust easily, and thrive in complex environments requiring expert judgment and high-impact decision making.
- You have worked with management tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO) or Jira and are familiar with Agile practices; certifications like Scrum Product Owner or Scrum Master are a plus.
- Familiarity with Group Benefits and/or Stop Loss insurance products is highly preferred.

Travel:
Required Training & Professional Development
All newly hired people leaders with direct reports are required to complete a comprehensive leadership development program within their first year. This program includes both virtual and in-person training. The in-person sessions will take place at Symetra’s corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. Symetra covers all travel and accommodation expenses
