Job Description

Why ClearStar Needs You:

ClearStar is seeking a licensed physician to join our drug testing program team as a Part-Time Medical Review Officer (MRO). In this critical role, you'll serve as the primary clinical authority overseeing the integrity of our drug testing process, working alongside our Operations team to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and compliance. As the liaison between our laboratory partners, employers, donors, and regulatory bodies, you'll help maintain ClearStar's reputation as a trusted leader in background screening and drug testing services

What You'll Do:

  • Review and interpret laboratory‑confirmed results and determine legitimate medical explanations.
  • Conduct confidential donor interviews when needed.
  • Verify and report final test outcomes to employers or agencies.
  • Oversee MRO Assistants handling negative and non‑negative non‑DOT screens.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations, including DOT 49 CFR Part 40.
  • Oversee chain‑of‑custody processes and participate in audits and quality reviews.
  • Support occupational testing initiatives, including occasional marketing or clinical review projects.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • MD or DO with an unrestricted license and board certification or eligibility.
  • Active MRO certification through AAMRO or MROCC.
  • At least 5 years of related experience, including 2 in drug screening.
  • Malpractice insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of toxicology, pharmacology, lab processes, and confidentiality standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free with access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day task.

Who You Are:

A precise, fair, and clinically skilled physician who exercises sound judgment, communicates clearly, protects confidentiality, and stays current on regulations. You work well independently, manage deadlines, and represent ClearStar with professionalism.

Join us on a journey of discovery and empowerment - where every opportunity is a steppingstone to success and growth. This position is also eligible for excellent benefits that include paid healthcare and life insurance premiums, low-cost dental and vision insurance, company-paid basic life insurance and a company-paid Short-Term Disability policy, employee assistance program, 401(k) matching up to 4%, time off, 9 company paid holidays, and 2 additional days of paid time off for volunteer activities.
